Where Real Estate Gets Its Dirt

Mark Scheel reports on Google I/O 2012 – Day 2 Recap

Today was the last day with a Keynote.  There were big announcements about Chrome and a new Compute Engine product (virtual machine rental).  There was an unnecessary reprisal of the blimp jumping stunt, and some excellent sessions.

Mark Scheel reports on Google I/O 2012 – Day 1 Recap

Incredible day, there was a live stream event of someone jumping out of a blimp onto the roof of the Moscone center, and a ton of great announcements.  I ran into Sergey Brin twice and got to meet the blimp jumper.

W&R Studios is looking for a few good men/women

W&R Studios, the creators of Cloud CMA, is looking to fill two positions:

Senior Account Manager (East Coast)
You’ll be responsible for selling W&R Studios products to agents, large brokers and MLS providers. We do this in a variety of ways. Co-sponsored events, office meetings, trade shows, conferences, live demos, phone, email, webinars, and lobby bars. I want someone who lives on the East Coast or somewhere where it’s not too much of a hassle to fly to the east coast.

Customer Support
I’m looking for someone to help us with our customer support. You should give good phone, be nice, and patient. This person will work out of our Huntington Beach office. We are a small company so typically this person will wear a lot of hats. So don’t be surprised if you are monitoring our social media feeds, creating screencasts, and writing blog posts.

We are looking for passionate people. While we have a casual work environment our goal is to create great products.

Email me at greg at wrstudios dot com. All inquires will be kept confidential.

Mark Scheel Reports on Google I/O 2012 – The Prediction Post

Arrived in San Francisco today. I like to play a game on the plane to I/O where I guess who is going to the conference. Simple math says about 100 people will come from each state so there probably isn’t anyone else on my plane from Denver. But you never know if the guy with a Family Guy T-Shirt and an 8AM Slurpee, or the skinny hipster with Chuck Taylor’s and an ironic t-shirt, might be in. A green robot hoodie? Dead giveaway.

RIP Marie Marr

Rex Marr’s wife has passed.

Jack Jominy posted this on Facebook last night…

I am sadden to inform you that Rex Marr’s wife Marie died today at 12:30pm. For those of you who don’t know, Marie had a tragic accident just before Christmas, 2011. She fell in their house and the same day went into a coma. Marie never recovered. Rex was by her side every day until she passed away.

I do not know the final funeral arrangements but I do know it will be Michigan on July 14’th. When I know the full details I will pass it along to all of you.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Rex and the Marr family.

-Jack

Mark Scheel reports on Google I/O 2012 – The Intro Post

Google I/O might be my favorite work related event of the year. This isn’t my first geek-adventure at Moscone Center in San Franscisco, and hopefully it won’t be my last.

I have been to several technical Google Events in the past year including ones at the Chelsea office in New York City, the Venice Beach office in California and in my backyard at the Boulder campus in Colorado. Still, I/O, a technology conference spent mostly in lectures where I studiously absorb new information, is a no brainer for one of my favorite things to do each year.

I am seriously excited for _this_ year for several reasons.

Mark Scheel is back and will be live reporting from the Google IO conference next week!

Mark Scheel
I’d like to welcome back Mark Scheel. Mark is back for the third year reporting on the new annoucments coming from Google’s IO Conference. I’ve said this before but Mark has some serious street cred in the real estate technology world. He worked with Dan and I at eNeighborhoods helping build one of the largest, if not THE LARGEST MLS IDX data aggregation systems in the industry. He now runs a software consultancy firm in Denver called Digital Construction.

I happy to have Mark contribute and hope to continue the trend with more contributors in the future.

Take it away Mark!

LPS shows the love

Marty, Rich and Jennifer from LPS MLS Solutions
I had an opportunity to attend LPS’s Customer Training Conference (CTC) last week in Overland Park, Kansas. It’s a 4 day event that brings together LPS customers (typically support staff) and LPS leadership and support teams (headquartered in Kansas).

LPS customers receive training, and certificaiton. Besides being able to meet the LPS support staff face to face I think the biggest benefit of these types of events is meeting other people doing the same type of work as you. So the lobby bar was full. They had over 100 attendees.

I was asked to give presentations on real estate software and got to meet a lot of wonderful people. I also got to sit in on presentations given by LPS staff about features in their MLS system and answer questions from their customers. The back and forth in these conversations were very enlightening.

I have to say I was super impressed by the dedication of LPS support staff (SSMs in LPS parlance).

Many of us in the industry become super jaded dealing with the needs of real estate agents. Supporting them can be a tough gig. It was just refreshing to see a group of people who haven’t fallen in to that trap of cynicism.

Tip of the hat to LPS management team and the great staff they have put together and thanks for including me at your event.

To boldly go where no man has gone…

Hat tip to @IMLSTrainer for sharing his Vendor Alley Sticker in the wild shot.
