Where Real Estate Gets Its Dirt

REtechSouth 2009 -What a line up!!

logo

I was just checking out the website for REtechSouth today and they have lined up a great list of speakers. Looks like Matt Fagioli and Brad Nix are putting on a great event!

I’m bummed I won’t make it!

Dan Woolley

But W&R Studios will be represented by Dan Woolley!!. Dan is going to leave his keyboard (hopfully not for too long) and speak on one of the panels. So somebody do me a favor and take lots of pictures of Dan while he’s on stage!

One of the schedule talks I wish I could see is the “Real Estate Mano y Mano” with Joseph Ferrara (Sellsius Real Estate blog) and Rob Hahn (The Notorious R.O.B).

They are going to debate the need of “lifestyle real estate search”. I personally think the whole lifestyle search is a dud but can appreciate the fact that OnBoard is not standing still. Sellsius is one of my favorite blogs. Joe does a great job of mixing the informative with the absurd of real estate. Although I think Joe should change the name of the event to “Mano a Mano”, unless he and Rob plan on holding hands during the debate.

Connection 2009 – VENDORS WELCOME!!

I had to break out of my DayQuil blur and write a post about the upcoming Connection 2009 conference, hosted by RMLS.

images-2

Since Portland, OR is the city of bridges RMLS has decided to bridge the gap between banning Vendors from participating in the event and now welcoming Vendors with open arms. RMLS has always been a class act and I was glad to hear they had put a halt to such shenanigans.

I’ve also heard that Beth Murphy will be there! As many of you know she fell very ill and was only recently released from the hospital.

But meanwhile Kurt von Wasmuth has been doing a good job of holding things together at RMLS. I’ve asked him to send me 9 reasons why everyone should attend, here they are:

Nine Reasons to Attend Connection in ‘09
1. Get educated! Hear the latest legal update regarding the VOW/NAR settlement.
2. Go green. Learn more about common green feature fields being incorporated into MLS systems.
3. Save some dough. It costs almost $200 less to register this year versus last! Sign up before March 17 and pay only $145/night in lodging.
4. Keep up with the Jones’s. Check out the progress of your peer MLS!
5. Talk more. Breakout sessions are back by popular demand!
6. Stay current! Hear the latest snapshot of how our industry is handling the economy.
7. Enjoy the scenery. When else will you get to visit the Pacific Northwest this year?
8. Have fun! Plan an extra day to enjoy golf, a tour of wine country or catch a fish on one of our great rivers.
9. Get an edge. Our up-to-the-minute economist will offer the latest and greatest trends for you to share.

$325 is a fantastic deal for this event! Portland is a great town, hopefully I’ll see many of you there and you can join me for some Spanish Coffee (if you don’t know, then don’t ask!)

Clareity's Annual MLS Executive Workshop – SOLD OUT!!

images-1

This is a testament to Gregg Larson and his crew for putting on a fantastic event. They have built a great reputation over the years for by building the perfect event cocktail; Great topics, great conversation, great people with a twist of fun!

I made the mistake of waiting (it’s been sold out for a few weeks now) and find myself not being able to join the cool cats in Scottsdale this year.

So I’m putting an alert in my calender this year to register, and register early for next year’s event.

But I will be in Scottsdale a couple days before the event (CMLS has timed their board of directors meeting around the workshop) so if anyone extra conference badge……

2nd Annual REtechSouth

RETECH SOUTH
My buddy Matt is starting a new conference, its REtechSouth.

So I thought I would give him a plug.

They are already racking up an impressive list of sponsors. The conference hopes to…

REtechSouth was born out of the desire to host a conversation about the technological changes impacting the real estate industry. A place where agents, brokers, lenders, builders and many other real estate industry practitioners could join together to collaborate on how technology can improve business. What tools work best? What websites are best for networking? Which vendor has the best product? What are the best practices for growing my online presence? These are the types of questions REtechSouth hopes to answer every year. The goal is to get some of the best minds in the industry together in one room to share the knowledge. ”

Sounds great to me!

Kind of an Inman Connect of the South? Might get a whole new batch of attendees.

Atlanta is a good choice when San Francisco and New York may be out of your budget.

New York City!!! Just like I pictured it!

Dan and I are heading to NYC first flight out of Ft. Lauderdale. Looking forward to seeing everyone!

And can you believe it, Dan Woolley has never been to New York City?!!

Seems very odd to me. I told him that we should do something special in honor of this occasion, so I offered to buy him a blo* jo* from a tranny. He declined.

Anyway, switching gears…I’ve still got some Vendor Alley schwag to give away. So I’m going to have another contest.

Just visit the Backstage Pass area of VendorAlley.com (upper right hand corner of the site, genius). The password has been changed. It’s now: bigapple. From there you will receive contest rules on receiving your free Vendor Alley Schwag.

Wednesday only Dan and I have a “Demo Pod” (that what you get when you can’t afford a full booth) going on at the Inman Exhibit Hall (Westside rooms 1&2) from 12PM to 6PM. So stop by and come make fun of us.

dwellicious-logo-spot-ii

I’ll be participating on a panel at the General Session, Thursday at 10:30AM. The panel will be entitled “New Kids (and Ideas) on the Block: Innovators from Around the World“. I’ll be talking about our new web apps being launched Dwellicious and Dwellicious Pro……and I will be making a very special surprise announcement!!

Of course I will have all the latest information about any and all after-parties going on at the show. So get your Twitter on and follow me @gregrobertson as we descend upon Manhattan and see what trouble we can find!

And take a cue from El Jobso, no matter what anybody says, Real Estate ain’t dead yet, so lets keep on keeping on. See you there!!!

CMLS 2008 “After Hours” Part II

Let’s continue with CMLS “After Hours” Part II with a stop at one of Minneapolis’ favorite restaurants…

Murray’s steakhouse has been in Minneapolis since 1946. Home of the “Silver Butterknife Steak” the service and food were fantastic. A lot of people headed over to Manny’s but I think we made the right choice at Murray’s (thanks SMH!), which had a great “old school” vibe. I mean the neon sign outside says “COCKTAIL LOUNGE”, you gotta love that . We need more cocktail lounges in this country!

Our apologies to the couple sitting in the booth next to us, I guess they had heard their limit of f-bombs and had to leave.

What happen after Murray’s cannot be shared is such a public forum. I’ll just say this….off the hook!!!

Let’s jump forward to “The Kissing Room”. It seems a bar called “The Local” had a “kissing room” where some of the attendees of the Council of MLS 2008 conference found refuge.

I’m told there was both “Vendor on Client” action and “Vendor on Vendor” action. After I heard a few of these stories I stopped by to take a look. The room was in the back of the bar and properly labeled with a couple red lamps adorning the inside. What stories those lamps could tell!!

And who could forget the lawn bowling at Brit’s Pub! The weather was perfect and I can’t think of a more original place to throw a party. I never made it down to “the pitch”, at that point of the day I wasn’t too confident with my hand motor skills.

Also one of my favorite places was a tequila bar (go figure!) called “Barrio“. There is nothing like having any tequila you want served any way you want by young female college students that must traverse up a long ladder to the top of the bar to fetch it! Ay Caramba!

I’ve got one more story to tell, I’ll leave that till next time
and I might even talk about what happen during the conference (oh really?!)

CMLS 2008 "After Hours" Part I

Well I didn’t do such a good job of any live coverage via VendorAlley.com. I did most of the live coverage via the Vendor Alley twitter account. So I thought I would serialize the recap in two, maybe three parts…

To start off, I didn’t see Prince. I guess the Purple One was out of town. : (

I can say John Mosey and his staff at NorthStarMLS did a great job. The agenda was great, the attendance was great, the Millennium Hotel…..not so much. The food however was fantastic, so compliments to the hotel chef!

The Golf Tournament was hosted by eNeighborhhoods held at North Oaks, a private country club in St. Paul. Fantastic course! Somehow I was paired with two titans of industry Chip Roach of Fox & Roach and Ron Peltier of HomeServices. Freaking Ron Peltier! Rounding out the group was Tom Diffley. Tom was a super nice guy and hosted the awards ceremony and should be a touring comedian.

Who won the golf tournament? – My group….natch! (not a misprint)

Downtown Minneapolis had a cool scene going on. Some people told me that they had really cleaned it up for the Republican Convention. No matter, lots of unique restaurants and bars. The first night I joined John Mosey, and a few others, at Seven. Under the stars and in the shadows of downtown Minneapolis skyscrapers we ate sushi, drank (from drinks served by John Mosey’s daughter, more on her later) and talked around the outdoor fire pit where Kristen Carr held court. I kept repeating in my head…”never go big on the first night…never go big on the first night..never…”

One night I had dinner with the Brian de Schepper and Matt Eide from Tarasoft and two lovely ladies Patti Sesto (now Patti Dauer, Congrats!) of Heartland MLS and Suzanne Harris of OnBoard at Maza.

Muy bueno gourmet Mexican food!

Another night (maybe two) I found myself at Prohibition,

a bar at the 27th floor of the W hotel.

Very cool art deco type of vibe. Cozy atmosphere where tables and chairs were found behind all sorts of corners and spaces.

But that was just the beginning. Come by tomorrow for Part II of CMLS 2008 -“After Hours”. You’ll hear all about lawn bowling, John Mosey’s daughter, the kissing room, and the home of the butterknife steak!

Council of MLS conference is just around the corner!

We will be giving you live coverage of the 51st annual CMLS conference from Minneapolis, MN next week. Both on VendorAlley and via our Twitter account

See you on the golf course, and save some extra drink tickets for me!

CMLS 2008 Conference just around the corner (Oct 1 -3)

John Mosey of NorthStarMLS will be hosting this year’s Council of MLS Conference in Minneapolis, MN

CMLS is the best MLS conference of the year and it looks like John has put together a great agenda. I think it’s the first conference I’ve been to that includes lawn bowling, nice!!

If you haven’t registered for the event remember you must be a member of CMLS to attend the event. To join CMLS click here.

See you there!!!

Inman Real Estate Connect Preview

Next week is Inman Real Estate Connect in SF, also known as “The Brad Inman Fund Raiser”…. I kid..I kid.

I’m looking forward to the conference and being in San Francisco.

Looks like Brad and his team have put together another great agenda. I’m stoked to see Merlin Mann I enjoy his blog and look forward to hearing what he has to say. The Blogger’s Connect agenda looks promising too.

Also what struck me as interesting is Sherry Chris’s new BH&G franchise is “officially” launching. I’ve been following their blog and you can sense the great spirit of starting something new. Something I am totally in tune with as well. This industry needs new and aggressive companies to lead the charge. Good Luck to Sherry and her team!

There are a bunch of parties going on all over the city. If you’ve got something to announce feel free to post a comment or send me an email at vendor.alley@gmail.com and I’ll put up a post.

Follow us at www.twitter.com/vendoralley to get the latest of all after parties and events going on in the city.

See you there!
