What I read over the break…

Just thought I’d give a plug to 2 books I read over this holiday break…

Options: The Secret Life of Steve Jobs, a Parody – by Fake Steve Jobs (Daniel Lyons)
I’m a big Steve Jobs and fake Steve Jobs fan. Here’s a taste…

“sometimes i feel like a great chef
who has devoted his entire life
to monastic study of the art of cooking
and gathered the finest ingredients
and built the most advanced kitchen
and prepared the most exquisite meal
so perfect, so delicious, so extraordinary
more astounding than any meal ever created
yet each day i stand in my window
and watch ninety-seven percent of the world
walk past my restaurant
into the mcdonald’s
across the street.”

The second book I read was

Born Standing Up: A Comic’s Life – by Steve Martin

Steve Martin is always been one of my favorites. It’s a autobiography of his early life doing stand up, and gives great insight to the creative process.

Funny fact, did you know that Steve Martin’s dad was a REALTOR in Orange County? He was actually president of the Newport Beach Association of REALTORS.

He talks about his relationship with his father in an article written for New Yorker magazine in 2002. If you have kids, or your parents are still alive it’s a must read.

Happy New Year everyone!

P2P WTF?

Inman is reporting that Brendan King and Jeff Tomlin tendered their resignations to Point2 along with other senior managers. By my count that would be 8 people leaving at the same time. REliberation has some interesting comments from customers.

According to the Inman article it stated that King “…disagreed with the strategy and direction going forward, so I decided to move onto different opportunities,”

Something tells me there is a lot more to this story.

Geeking out at Inman Connect

So I’m taking the lead from Joel Burslem of Inman and signed up for a Twitter account. According to Joel…

“Twitter is a micro-blogging platform that allows you to answer the question “What are you doing?” online in 140 characters or less.

Over the last few months it has been adopted by thousands of users worldwide to let their friends know what they are up to. Check out Twittervision to see just some of the activity that is happening on the network right now.

Twitter is also a great way for you to keep in touch with colleagues, business contacts and friends at a conference like Connect.

Using your mobile phone you can SMS (text message) your location (iPhone users can use the fantastic application PocketTweets), so people can locate you in the Palace. Using Twitter, you can narrowcast your location to followers and friends so they will always be able to find you.”

So if you want to follow us at Inman Connect Conference check out our profile VendorAlley and add us a friend.

Of course we might not let you know to all the places we’ll be going….
